I decided to go to my fiancé’s employment, thinking his coworkers would know something. As I walked into the office building, I felt a mixture of fear and determination. They would have witnessed him in his most vulnerable times, perhaps uttering secrets like banter over coffee. My pulse raced as I approached the receptionist, attempting to hide my worry with a nice grin.

When I mentioned my fiancé’s name, someone hastily shifted the subject. They were clearly uneasy, as if they knew more than they were admitting. My instinct told me something deeper was going on, and these defensive responses simply confirmed my concerns.
