So there he was at an orphanage, waiting patiently for a youngster to approach him. He tried to look less threatening and more like a huggable teddy bear. He smiled gently and set out the toys he’d brought: a truck, a doll, and a coloring book. You could say he wanted to be ready for anything. But Nolan had never imagined what would happen next.

“Daddy!”
Nolan was discouraged as he saw the other couple connect successfully with a child. He had been in the orphanage for around half an hour, and his visit was barely an hour long. So he’d already spent half of his time waiting. When he heard a girl shout “Daddy!” and caught eyes with her, his gut sank.
