Dick Dale is otherwise known as Richard Monsour and he was born in Massachusetts in 1937 on the 4th of May. Dick Dale is ultimately the pioneer of “surf rock,” which may be attributed to his passion for surfing that came about when he was 17 after his family moved to Southern California.

Dale’s musical style can be described as impressively fast strumming that was as loud as it was fast. Some of the best songs to come out of his six-stringed guitar are “The Peter Gunn Theme” and “Misirlou.”

#19 Freddie King

Known as “The Texas Cannonball,” Freddie King was born in 1934 on the 3rd of September in Gilmer, Texas. He earned his nickname from his “incendiary” performances and his incredibly large build. Freddie King played his guitar using metal picks that are intended for playing banjos, although, this fundamental aspect is what helped him produce such a unique sound.
