Whenever one travels, the first thing people usually plan includes their hotel stay. Unless you are staying with a relative or friend, going abroad means you would have to use a hotel, motel, or hostel for accommodation. Advantages

Contrary to what many of us believe, there are advantages of booking a room at the last minute, but it also depends on where your destination is and the season. Many hotels offer accommodation for the night at a discounted rate, sometimes as much as 75% off. Their reason for doing so is that there are many vacancies. It will be highly unlikely that the hotel will be full and this is why they would offer a discounted rate. Another advantage is that there is an element of choosing where to stay. Some travelers have noted that pre-booking prevents them from choosing another hotel because the rooms have already been reserved and paid for. Staying at a comfortable hotel or accommodation is a must for every vacation and it can actually make or break your trip. You are bound to enjoy discounted rates in developing countries such as in the southeast Asian region where backpackers are popular tourists. Local hotels and hostels are aware of this and will be more than willing to offer you a room at a moment’s notice.

Disadvantages

It can be so risky to simply assume that you’ll be able to book a room, soon as you get to your destination. This isn’t always the case, especially if you have been keen on spending the night at a particular hotel. This is one of the disadvantages of walking in and not planning ahead. Another issue is the price. Like what was mentioned earlier, getting a discounted room is not always assured. This is always the case for hotel chains and they actually charge you more than the offered price of the room. Another disadvantage is that vacancy can be an issue when you are not aware if it is peak season. You might end up wasting your time looking for a hotel and end up with a room that is less than appealing. Aside from wasted time and money, you are left with a not so nice experience that is bound to leave a mark on you. Another disadvantage is that you are losing out on possible discounts if you don’t book ahead. Some of the hotels offer cheaper rates if you book months ahead of time. The possibility of missing out on saving some extra cash for your shopping or food trip is enough reason for you to simply plan ahead.

The Bottomline

All in all, planning or booking your vacation months ahead of time is always best. This will assure you that you have everything planned out, at least for your flights and hotel accommodation. Planning ahead gives you convenience and peace of mind when you are in a new place. Always choose a hotel that is reputable and has good reviews. Ask friends for recommendations and if you are staying for a week or more, ask the hotel if they can give a discounted rate. Most do or at least will offer extras such as a complimentary lunch buffet. Your travel experience should be fun, exciting, and comfortable. Don’t make the mistake of simply leaving it to chance especially when it comes to your hotel. If this is your first time visiting the country, go for hotel chains (though they may be more expensive). You are buying comfort and relaxation anyway.
