Muffles sounds
Because the walls were thick, we could only hear muffled sounds, but they seemed hot and frightening. All eyes were on me, but I shrugged my shoulders, intending to deceive everyone into thinking I had nothing to do with it. Nobody needed to know I had put my husband’s job in jeopardy.
