Building a new submarine series takes years of planning and research. As things stand, it is in the early design phases, and engineers are working hard at getting a working prototype down for the Navy to dig their heels into. Looking at the government budget, it’s clear that the focus for right now is on conducting as many studies to get as much information as possible first. From there, the vessel will become more conceptualized, once all the facts have been gathered and assessed.

The SSN(X) is expected to be so technologically advanced, that the U.S. navy will likely use it for decades to come. Considering the price of the vessel, we’re not surprised! As long as the machine lives up to the hype relative to its stealth, speed and general durability, it should be an investment that’s well worth the cost. A failing vessel could have a catastrophic effect on so many areas of American life, so there is a lot on the line here.
