With a price tag like that, you can imagine that it won’t only be a feature-rich innovation, but it will also be a massive vessel that is meant to outperform and outmaneuver its competition. The SSN(X) will be bigger than the Seawolf and the Virginia model, which each had a capacity of between roughly 8,000 and 9,000 tons. One thing is for sure: these two will pale in comparison relative to the brand new vessel.

Dual Fuel Capabilities

Submarines need a lot of power to be able to navigate through the dense waters of the ocean. The SSN(X) is going to be different to its counterparts in this regard, because it will come with an engine that uses both diesel-electric and nuclear power. As you can imagine, these engines are still in the planning phase, but due to the rollout timeline (and the rapidly changing environmental policies around the world), it is unlikely to require fuel and oil as we know it today.
