Introducing 545 Laika
One of the better-known projects that the Russian navy is currently involved with is the design of a brand new submarine class called the 545 Laika. Dubbed to first and foremost be an attack submarine, it’s easy to imagine that other countries must be slightly scared of what it is going to be capable of. While it’s hard to know exactly how it will turn out, we’re sure that it’s going to be one of the most advanced and powerful classes of submarines ever designed.

Speed First, Stealth Later
Experts expect that the new Laika class will include core features from the Yasen classes as well. It is estimated that the Laika class could reach surface speeds of up to 23 miles per hour, which would increase to up to 32 miles per hour below the surface. Some people suggest it may even go eight miles faster than that, indicating that the Russian navy is more focused on improving speed, rather than getting stuck on stealth features.
