Chris Brown might have worked incredibly hard to secure his leading position within the pop and R&B realms. Despite his angelic voice and sweet smile, Brown would be revealed as a disgraceful and abusive partner when his relationship with Rihanna reached a violent stage. During 2009, at a party leading up to the Grammy Awards, the pair entered into an aggravating disagreement that ended with Brown mercilessly beating Rihanna. She then came out of the beating with a busted lip, cheeks that were bruised, and a laceration on the top of her head.

She might be a leading figure in the R&B genre, but Mary J. Blige has suffered her fair share of humiliation that could easily have been avoided with a little less greed and a lot more self-respect. Perhaps the most degrading episode in Blige’s career was when she happily agreed to promote some fried chicken wrap that Burger King released. She participated in an advert where she sang about the new fried chicken meal, much to the alarm of members of the African American community that accused her of promoting racial stereotypes.
